About
"A fine work of art - music, dance, painting, story - has the power to silence the chatter in the mind and lift us to another place." - Robert McKee
I grew up with a large extended family that celebrated the arts. Family gatherings were filled with painters, musicians, writers, photographers, chefs, a potter, and a glass blower. I was most drawn to the visual arts, inspired by my aunt and grandfather, and I began painting at a young age.
Davidson College and UNC-Chapel Hill prepared me for a career as a Professional School Counselor, but I returned to my love of the arts when I became a mother in 2010. I have been studying and painting when motherhood has allowed ever since. I began painting with watercolors, focusing primarily on portraits of children. Recently, I have switched to oils and have developed a passion for painting outdoors with a portable easel in the “plein air” tradition. I can be spotted painting landscapes around eastern North Carolina with the Coastal Plein Air Painters.
I am grateful for the instruction and support that I have received from artists James Richards, Matt Smith, Scott Christensen, Sadie Valeri, Mary Whyte, Peggi Habets, Mario Robinson, Jill Eberle, and Ed Macomber. I am a member of Oil Painters of America, the American Impressionist Society, the Twin Rivers Artists Association, and the Coastal Plein Air Painters. I have received recognition in local, statewide, and national shows. My paintings can be purchased at The Last Detail in New Bern, NC, Salt Studios and Gallery in Morehead City, NC, and at The Mattie King Davis Gallery in Beaufort, NC.
